2021.09.28 10:18 Jarrad186 Moving overseas and unsure of whether to keep using my CBA Ultimate Awards CC, or look into other payment methods (i.e. Transferwise Multi Currency Account/Card)?

I'm moving to Europe in 6 weeks time, and I won't be able to set up a bank account within the country until maybe a year or so down the track. In the meantime I'm planning to keep using an Australian based card and trying to assess the ones with the lowest rates/fees or benefits. Below are the main options I'm considering:
**CBA Ultimate Awards CC** [Link](https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/ultimate.html)
I already own a CBA Ultimate Awards CC, and reading through the fine print it says that international purchases give the highest rate of points per $ spent (3:$1), with a 0% international transaction fee. My assumption is that they give such a high reward rate as they're making money off the exchange rate they're offering, with their sent IMT currently sitting at €0.591. Is there anything else I could be missing outside of a potentially poor exchange rate?

**Transferwise Multi-Currency Account** [Link](https://wise.com/au/multi-currency-account/)
$0 account fee, free to spend in currencies in your account, only $10 to get the physical card. Overall this seems like the best other option as their exchange rate is €0.622, so realistically if I'm spending $100k AUD in a year then with Transferwise's exchange rates I'm saving $3,100 compared to CBA.

**Citibank Plus Account** [Link](https://www1.citibank.com.au/banking/bank-accounts/citibank-plus)
$0 account fees and international transaction fees, but have a €0.611 exchange. Overall seems like the worst option as it's just a worse version of Transferwise due to their rates.

Based off this I'm considering going with Transferwise, as I don't believe the extra points I'll accrue through CBA CC won't offset the savings from Transferwise, although I haven't run the numbers on that yet.
Is there anything I'm potentially missing with any of these options?

2021.09.28 10:18 ConfusedThrowaway069 [Serious] Got a 600 EUR brutto raise but now earn 100 EUR less net at new job?

Greetings Belgians,
I come asking for advice and an explainer. I have recently started a new job with a raise from 3.3k to 4k monthly compensation. After a period of holiday transfer pay confusion I finally got the first of what I think is a representative paycheque, however it seems that I now earn 100 EUR less in real terms than at my old job. Can someone explain how this works? I attach extracts from my payslips, one representative payslips for the old job and the payslip I just got for the new job.
Here you can see the extracts: https://imgur.com/a/RvzcRvE

2021.09.28 10:18 iammatthewtang Which Router to get for Aqara smart home devices?

'm looking into moving to a new home late this year and plan on outfitting them with Aqara products. (I'm from Asia so Aqara products are the more cost effective solution.)
I've been reading a lot on routers and I've narrowed down my choices to the Asus XT8 and Eero Pro 6
Common Features and a Must:
- Wifi 6 (AX) at least (6E is a bit too pricey for now and 6Hz range is questionable)
- Tri-band through 5Ghz for wireless backhaul
That's where the commonalities end though. It's important to note that the majority, if not all of Aqara's devices work on Zigbee and only connects to the 2.4Ghz wifi band.
Asus XT8
Pros
- have more granular controls
- includes parental and security controls without additional subscription fees
- has USB port that should enable NAS-like features (works with Time Machine)
Cons
- doesn't have Homekit Secure Router certification
- getting mixed reviews on reliability with Homekit
- read on an Amazon review that smart home devices that connect to th 2.4Ghz band seems to not communicate effectively to devices such as phones, tablets, etc that are connected to the 5Ghz band.
Asus XT8 Summary: mixed reviews but can probably be solved by tweaking settings
Eero Pro 6
Pros
- "just works" although again, I also read some users encounter issues
- Homekit Secure Router
Cons
- doesn't offer granular router settings
- no USB port so no NAS features as well
- privacy concerns (Amazon... but I'm getting Aqara anyway and the HKSR features cancels this out)
- have to pay subscription for parental controls and such
Eero Pro 6 Summary: generally just works but if you do encounter issues, you can't tweak settings to address these
Generally, my priority would be that "it just works" with Homekit and Aqara devices in general.
I'm also very open to recommendation from other Aqara users as to their experiences and router of choice. Other router recommendations welcome!

2021.09.28 10:18 CakemanTheGreat I still don't get why Iran is called Persia.

I've seen a few arguments but none of them seem to be consistent with other tags in the game.
"It was historically called Persia in English"
Sure, but we don't follow that same rule for 'Bharat' or 'Hindustan,' these are called by their local names despite the fact that it would be 'India' in English.
Furthermore, I disagree that anything there would be called Persia. Parthia is called Parthia because it's rulers were Parthian, the Illkanate is called Illkanate because that was what the rulers were called. Just because it occupies the same space as Persia doesn't make it Persia.
Other countries retain their dynastic name instead of what they would be called in English, as is the case with Ottomans, Ming and Qing. The ideas make it pretty obvious that 'Persia' is just meant to be Safavid Iran, so why not just call it 'Safavids?'
I just don't think a nation formable by other Iranian cultures being called Persia makes any sense. What are your thoughts?
